Menopause is the time in a woman's life when she stops having periods. It marks the transition between a woman's childbearing and nonchildbearing years, but menopause can creep up many years before it actually happens. This stage is known as perimenopause and most commonly starts between the ages of 40 and 44 but can sometimes start in your thirties. Symptoms may begin very mildly, hardly noticeable at all, becoming more challenging to cope with as you age. Actual menopause happens once you've gone twelve months without a single period, after which you are considered to be in the post-menopausal stage.
Until recently, menopause has been considered a process women go through behind closed doors. We didn't talk about it or compare notes with other women and certainly didn't bother our partners and husbands with it. But, thanks to a menopause revolution kickstarted by women such as Davina McCall, women are now speaking up, and heck, why shouldn't we? It's an extremely lengthy and sometimes lonely process, often taking eight to ten years before we actually go through menopause, with symptoms often dragging on for many years after that.
The Menopause Club has been created as a place to source information, tips, advice and recommendations to find out how you can help your symptoms and support your body through the transition to a healthier and happier menopause! With menopause: we're positively all in this together!
